I received flowers from someone I haven’t seen in a while. I met him from a common friend. He’s a funny guy who made me laugh when I was so tired from work. He’s a good guy with whom I could talk to about the quirks of being the eldest. We talked almost daily. He called me up from time to time. But when I learned that he’s engaged already, I was the one who walked away. It was the best thing to do.
I never explained to him why. I know that until now he was wondering what happened. He asked me once why I was not talking to him anymore as I did in the past. Why all of a sudden I stopped treating him as a friend. I told him that life took over and that I was really busy. It was a lame excuse but one that he accepted.
According to the note attached to the flower arrangement, he gave me the flowers just because. He remembered a conversation we had about cheering someone up with flowers. So he had flowers sent to me. The flower arrangement did make me smile.
How he knew I needed some cheering up, I don’t know how.
