Comments offI don’t know how to deal with an offensive relative. I mean, he’s been that way eversince I’ve known him, when I was in my teens. And he’s never changed since then. He’s actually kind, in fact he’s very thoughtful and accommodating. But then, when he starts firing jokes…
There was this one time when I attended a birthday party he hosted. I was with my older male cousin and two pairs of aunts and uncles. He got a bit drunk and started with his offensive jokes. My kuya (older cousin) started firing back, telling him to back off, in a polite manner since we acknowledged that he’s older than us. You know what happened? He got offended! My kuya and him almost came to blows over it.
We’re wary of him ever since. But just recently, we noticed that he mellowed down. We’ve yet to see if he’ll change completely. I know that he’s been told that his jokes are offensive. That’s him. He doesn’t mean any harm. It’s just that he jokes that way. Oh well, I do hope that he’ll realize in time that nobody appreciates his jokes, then and now.
